At this time, delicate also for the transition from childhood to adolescence, they can change the habits of oral hygiene, along with an increasingly greater autonomy that the growing subject acquires. For this reason it is important to carry out periodic checks and motivate the patient to take care of his mouth, making him become aware of his oral health and prevention: a heritage that will bring with it even in adulthood if guided and sensitized about it.
During adolescence the importance of oral hygiene is not lacking, as well as early diagnosis of any pathologies, so as to preserve healthy teeth even in adulthood.
Growth also involves a greater observation of self and often in adolescents the desire to improve the aesthetics of their teeth is born. This is also the right time to diagnose and treat orthodontically any malocclusions and misalignments: we are in fact close to the last growth peaks, at which we can allow the correction of some skeletal problems. After this “peak” some orthodontic pathologies may be more difficult or challenging to treat.
There are several types of orthodontic appliances that can be used to treat malocclusion at this age: traditional fixed devices or removable appliances. Some orthodontic devices, such as invisible masks, may also meet the desire to treat orthodontic problems by reducing the impact on the comfort and aesthetics of young patients, when there are indications to use them.
